Looks like he's only got 3 characters set up on it so far... Not sure if another player is working on a character, or if we need more people to have interest.  If it's the latter... Anyone?  Anyone? :P
Valerod: 2 Ranger/2 Rogue (Andoran)
Rhudry: 2 Cavalier (Silver Crusade)

Okay, so... this was a train wreck.  Normally I can work with people, but I game to roleplay, not to get credit for a scenario.

For those that are wondering what happened here, here's a short breakdown.

The GM pasted the opening text block, then attempted to have each person do their faction mission... All well and good, right?  Except that all he did was he told each player to make a particular roll.  No asking what the character was doing, no attempt to do any story, just, in my case as a Shadow Lodge member, roll sleight of hand.

So, I don't have any ranks in that, so my character wouldn't have tried to solve it that way... So I had to come up with other scenarios, another way I would have handled it... without, by the way, any information from the GM as to why I would have to do it any other way than just arranging a meeting... And finally he let us move on.

Move to the next scene... There's an encounter, we roll initiative...  My turn comes around, I say I go upstairs... he tells me to roll one of two skill checks... There's no context... There's no reason for it, my character doesn't know what's going on...  It's just a simple "make your roll".

So, at this point, I figure we just need better communication, and ask for us to move to Skype... he doesn't want to do anything that calls for an installation, but in general, not much has happened, there has been ZERO role playing except for some minor interaction between myself and one other character while we waited for the GM to do something...

So I said the situation was untenable... at which point I was unceremoniously booted from the game.

I don't know if any of the rest of you had any fun playing with him, but I think the combination of the tools used and the GM's method of play made the whole thing a complete disaster.

I think that a major factor of VTT play is this.. you have to give and take some. You're rarely going to come into a VTT game blind and have a perfect mesh right off the bat. The synergy of different play styles and methodologies come into play. Folks aren't always going to be as experienced in it as the next person might be. I've been playing VTT via Fantasy Grounds for something like 3 going on 4 years now.

That being said keronian.. you took up nearly an hour over the faction mission and most of another with the issue at hand later on. That was one of the factors that got the game from a fairly quick in and out to a five hour or so game. Yes, it wasn't your style of play.. BUT you weren't the only one at the table.

That being said, you had some good ideas.. Skype, Google Hangout or even a Ventrillo chat server would have helped out. I would suggest if you think about such things that it be put in as part of the the VTT event planning AHEAD of time. That way folks can see what they need coming in, get it downloaded and set up.

My suggestion if we try thing again.. would be.. a format like that..

'VTT game @ this day @ this time'
-What Program(s) the GM is using: (RPGwithme.com, Google hangout (with google+ handle of coordinator)
-What Module (with Levels/tiers)
-What the players are playing (upload the XML ahead of time, ect, society character numbers, emails to send scanned sheets to the players after, ect)
-GM contact info (so you can apply to the game, get a slot, ect)

The event thread could be used for feed back, the GM might want to post what he does/expects... for example his take on rules, what conduct he expects out of the player, what you're using the 2nd party apps (skype, google+, ect) to reduce clutter and confusion.

VTT can and is fun.. but also take a bit of work if you don't know the folks.

Lastly.. it takes a bit of give and take on everyone's behalf.

I've done VTT before, it was not nearly this painful.  Yes, there was an initial setup period where we attempted to figure out the interface, but once things got going, they went pretty well.  Our trial run of D20Pro was a lot of fun, and we didn't have to cut out all the roleplaying to get it done.

As for how much time I took up, personally?  I wasn't unresponsive to what I was being asked to do... I was trying to figure out what was going on in the context of the game, and I got no responses.  No answers to any of my questions, no working with me to try to come up with a solution that fit my character.  As far as I'm concerned, that's the GM being unresponsive to me.

As far as play styles go... How is that an acceptable play style?  I mean, the whole point of playing the game is supposed to be story telling.  The mechanics are just a tool to assist with that idea.  I mean, the min-maxing meta-gaming players are supposed to be the bane of the GM.  So how is a GM that glosses over and ignores any opportunity for story telling a good thing for the game?

Side note, based on the activity board for that table, it looks like you got done at around 3am... That's not a 5 hour game, that's an 8 hour game.
