Rules Discussion / Re: Scribing Spell Costs - Cheaper than you thought!

I believe the "rare and unique" spells are referring to custom designed magic spells whose rules are detailed in Ultimate Magic.

Rules Discussion / Re: gravity bow

Take a level of Ranger and buy a Wand of Gravity Bow.

Since the spell is on the Ranger spell list (even though you can't cast it at level 1), you don't have to make the UMD check to activate the wand.

Also, grab a spring loaded wrist sheath from ultimate equipment (5gp) and you can draw your wand as a swift action.

Round 1: Swift, draw wand into free hand; Std, Activate wand; Move, Stow wand in backpack, or drop as free and move into position

Round 2: Commence the bombardment!

GM Confidential / Re: Adventure Path or Module For PFS Credit?
« on: June 19, 2015, 08:04:42 pm »
Yes. Most of the Adventure Path chapters and Modules have a selected part that is "Sanctioned" that completion of has a Chronicle Sheet for completing. Chronicle Sheets can be found here on the right hand side of this page under "Chronicle Sheets".

Dragon's Demand is the first super module that Paizo experimented with and had positive results. It has 3 sanctioned parts that each have a chronicle sheet and grant a level's worth of XP/treasure. It also has a 4th bonus chronicle sheet that grants an additional level that kicks in if you apply all 3 sheets to the same PFS character number. It has content to take a party from level 1-7ish.

Iron Gods is on the schedule to be sanctioned, but as of yet it has not been released. John Compton said back in Jan that he was still planning to release chronicle sheets for it, as his time/schedule permits him to work on them.

I believe this is what you are referring to:

Prerequisite: Half-orc.

Benefit: You can make a bite attack for 1d4 points of damage, plus your Strength modifier. You’re considered proficient in this attack and can apply feats or effects appropriate to natural attacks to it. If used as part of a full attack action, the bite is considered a secondary attack and is made at your full base attack bonus –5, and adds half your Strength modifier to damage.

So as a full round attack action at level 1, you would make an attack with your manufactured weapon at your full bonus (BAB+STR), and get a bite at -5 from that number (BAB+STR-5). As you level up and get multiple weapon attacks from higher BAB, your bite will always remain at -5 from your highest attack bonus.

I bought the PDF and read the 4 classes and was pretty happy with my purchase for $10.

The changes to the Barbarian are nice and the temp HP will make the +Con mechanic MUCH less difficult to explain to new players, along with a flat +att/dmg buff from rage, a big quality of life improvement. On a downside though, the Terrifying Howl rage power is absolutely ridiculous from a GM perspective (esp when combined with Dazzling Display). This is going to horribly slow down fights during time slots that are already strained as is. I think if they had limited the number of targets it could affect, that might now have made it so absolutely RIPE for abuse. Like the changes (except Terrifying Howl RP)

The new Skill unlocks for the Rogue class are pretty interesting (esp since they're the only class that can use that mechanic). Essentially they get extra ways to use certain Skills based on the number of ranks they have in them. Like the changes.

The new monk stuff gives them some edge back, and replaces a lot of the flat bonuses with more on use skills. Some of the new Ki powers are very thematic and give the monk some real kung fu movie flair it needed. Like the changes.

The summoner... is still a broken class. They fixed some of the problems with the Eidolons, but... yeah it's still really, really broken. Wasn't nerfed nearly as much as it needs to be. Missed the mark Paizo O.o

General Pathfinder Discussion / Re: Light sabers and ray guns??

I picked it up because it has the details for technology faults and radiation hazards that I, as a GM, wanted to get ready for in season 6.

The idea is cool in practice, but I am still hesitant on how it will fit into PFS play. Mixing fantasy and high tech isn't my thing, but I will give it a try with an open mind.

As far as the value of the book goes, PFS allowed wise, you are only going to get about a dozen pages of content out of the 68pg book.

There are 6 feats that are legal, including Technologist (a must for season 6 skill monkeys) that gives you access to expanded uses of Disable Device, Heal, Kn: Arcana/Engineering/Geography for interacting with technological devices.

There are about 12-13 new spells with technology themes; however, 2/3 of them are just re-skinned existing spells (Protection from Tech, Magic Circle Against Tech, Detect Radiation, Remove Radiation, etc.)

Three of the five archetypes are allowed: A cleric that can channel to heal/harm robots, a rogue that replaces magical trap abilities with technological trap abilities, and a barbarian that str/dex rages and has firearm proficiency. The only prestige class, Technomancer, is not allowed.

The rest of the book is filled weapon/armor/wondrous item descriptions. About 95% of the weapon descriptions start with "This extremely deadly..." ... blah blah blah. None of these items in the book are legal anyways. Though I have to admit that I am exceedingly disappointed that the Sonic Screwdriver, er, e-pick, is not legal... but here's hoping for one on a chronicle sheet!

Overall, worth a couple bucks, but for PFS legal content, it's severely lacking in yummy goodness.

General Pathfinder Discussion / Re: Lack of GMs?
« on: August 18, 2014, 07:58:22 am »
I think you will find that there will always be a shortage of GMs in organized play campaigns to some degree. I am an organizer at our flgs for PFS and I GM about 80% of the time. In larger cities like Orlando, they usually don't have too much trouble getting a half dozen GMs on a Thursday night at Coolstuff. In smaller cities like Melbourne, we can usually muster 2-3 tables per week, however, the majority of time we have the same 4 GMs as most players are too hesitant/lazy to even give it a try. I encourage everyone to give it a shot and treat GMing as a learning experience.

General Pathfinder Discussion / Re: Chronicle Booty aka Loots
« on: August 17, 2014, 12:49:43 pm »
Yes, you can apply the chronicle sheet to a first level PFS character number as if you had played a regular scenario with a 1st level pregen.

The character number you assign it to will receive the 500gp, 1 PP, and the boon (if you succeed on your mission). The items on the chronicle sheet will also be added to your list of items available for purchase, the same as when playing a normal scenario with a regular character.
